Happy Friday! I am so happy to be creating pastel paintings that relax me once again! I was introduced to a new way of pastel painting. I am using “Gatorboard”, then applying gesso to this board to get a textured affect. I like this “grittier” look because it emulates the feel of the beach when I’m there. It gives the painting a little more dimension as well.
I wrote an acrostic of what I thought this coming year should be like for me. Although I haven’t been active in writing on my blog this year; it is my hope to challenge myself to write and create more. Both mediums are very therapeutic to me and balance my life out.
This painting “Weathered” was created a few months ago. The idea was taken at an antique show in Massachusetts. I was drawn to this setup because of my love for the garden, the ocean and antique accents. The colors that attracted me to this picture gave me a sense of what has been used in the past, but is very welcomed, for some, in our lives today. Most of us cherish aged pieces from the past; it gives us comfort and can remind us of situations or people who were once in our lives, (warm fuzzies). In most instances I can’t agree with the saying “Out with the Old and In with the New”. Some things have emotional ties, maybe an attachment to the past, or just a warm memory you’ve created yourself. It is all in the hands of the individual. So, I will end this with my creative writing piece, enjoy the New Year with lots of love, health and happiness!

As promised, and a little behind in getting this out, is my finished painting “Sea Trinkets”! I am so excited to have finished this. The ocean is my inspiration, but it is also my favorite place to hang no matter what! If you ask me how often I’m at the beach my response would be, ” Count my sea glass, sand dollars and more importantly, my happiness! ” Have a great day everyone! 🙂
Another reason to love the beach! I smile every time I see a child building a sandcastle, using a plastic shovel to fill their buckets with sand, or picking up shells and live creatures from the tides and in between the rocks. Just the expressions on their faces when they play or find an exciting treasure in the sand fills my heart. I have to admit; I’m that way as well.
A dear friend from school posted this picture and I could not go without painting it! I hope she enjoys this as much as I had painting it. Enjoy the sunshine everyone! 😉
This is the second picture taken of my beach painting. I really love everything about it; the background, the shape of the sea life and the full bottle of sea glass. I am trying to get the colors as real as I can. I don’t work on my paintings as often as I would like to, but it gives me great therapy to figure out the color theory of any paintings I do. I also take my time because my heart is into it. I want people to feel this. I will show another view as soon as my pastels come out again. Tell me what you think! 🙂
