Enameling Love
Posted on December 10 2024,
I have been taking an Torch enameling class for the past 14 weeks now and it has been such a blast. The class came to an end last week, but boy did I get some treasures done!
I started by making Christmas tree earrings. They were long and just primitive looking. I love the looks of them because of the black frame along the edges, and how the background of white gives a newly fallen snow feel on the tree. The one thing I love about enameling is how the character of every piece is created, not intentionally.
Yes, I said not intentionally! Why? Because, no matter how methodical I got in adding the enamel to the copper piece or how much heat from the torch was applied, my pieces came out a tad different. Every time I made a new set of earrings I grew to love them even more. I thought about adding strings of lights and a star on the top of some trees, but I just love the simplicity of the tree on it's own.
In the coming days I will be posting some of the earrings I created in class. They will be for sale as well. I am getting ready to create some pieces of jewelry, with enamel, but want to paint the enamel on them, then torch to see the affect. Can't wait to show everyone.
I love the holidays and all the magic that comes with it. It is the same with metalsmithing; there is always a surprise in store for me when I am creating with my torch.
